Chhukung Valley
Tucked deep within the Everest region, the Chhukung Valley offers a pristine alpine escape for trekkers seeking solitude, high-altitude adventure, and raw Himalayan beauty. Nestled between the towering peaks of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Island Peak, Chhukung is a lesser-visited gem that often serves as an acclimatization stop or side trip for those on their way to EBC or climbing expeditions. The valley extends eastward from Dingboche, tracing the Imja Khola River past glacial moraines and yak pastures to the small village of Chhukung (4,730m).
The highlight of the region is the ascent to Chhukung Ri (5,546m), which offers one of the most intimate views of the Lhotse south face, Nuptse, Baruntse, and the towering Imja Glacier. For climbers, the valley is the gateway to Island Peak (Imja Tse), one of Nepal’s most popular trekking peaks. Despite its remoteness, the valley boasts cozy tea houses and warm Sherpa hospitality. With fewer trekkers on the trail, it offers peace and a sense of wilderness rarely found on the busier Everest routes. Whether for acclimatization, peak climbing, or scenic exploration, Chhukung Valley is a remarkable destination for seasoned adventurers.
